Wedoany.com Report-Aug. 24, The Ministry of Finance and Planning of the Maldives has announced a tender for procuring materials to support 1.5 megawatts of rooftop solar installations for household consumers. This initiative aims to expand access to renewable energy, contributing to the country’s sustainability goals.
Bidding documents are available for download on the ministry’s website. Interested bidders must register with the Ministry of Finance and submit a non-refundable registration fee by September 8. According to the International Renewable Energy Agency, the Maldives had installed 69 megawatts of solar capacity by the end of 2024, an increase from 55 megawatts the previous year. This growth reflects the country’s commitment to advancing renewable energy infrastructure to meet rising energy demands sustainably.
Earlier this year, in February, the Maldives launched a separate tender for up to 150 megawatts of solar capacity, signaling a broader push to integrate renewable energy into its energy mix. The current tender for rooftop solar materials aligns with these efforts, focusing on empowering households with clean energy solutions.
This procurement initiative underscores the Maldives’ dedication to enhancing its renewable energy capabilities, reducing reliance on traditional energy sources, and fostering environmental sustainability. By targeting household consumers, the project aims to deliver direct benefits to communities while supporting the nation’s long-term energy and economic development goals.
