Wedoany.com Report-Dec.8, Jordan's Ministry of Agriculture has suspended imports of frozen poultry to ease pressure on domestic producers and stabilise market prices. The decision, announced in late November 2025, follows recommendations from the House of Representatives' Agriculture and Water Committee, chaired by MP Ahmed al-Shdeifat.

Agriculture Minister Saeb al-Harith stated that the temporary import ban aims to protect local poultry farmers from price volatility caused by unregulated domestic supply and external competition. He stressed that imports will be managed in line with national standards to safeguard producers’ interests while ensuring adequate market availability.

The committee meeting highlighted additional difficulties facing the sector, including the effects of climate change, reduced rainfall and rising costs of imported animal feed. Farmers requested expanded feed quotas, deferred loan repayments and other forms of government assistance to maintain operations.

MP Ahmed al-Shdeifat urged coordinated action between ministries, farmers and industry stakeholders to develop a long-term strategy that strengthens local production and promotes sustainable growth in Jordan's poultry industry.

The measures reflect ongoing efforts to balance consumer access to affordable protein with the need to support domestic agricultural livelihoods.
