Wedoany.com Report-Jun 15, Kemira Oyj, a company based in Helsinki, Finland, has announced plans to expand its sodium borohydride (SBH) powder production capacity at its Äetsä facility in Finland. The investment, valued at less than €10 million, includes constructing a new production line and implementing process safety enhancements at the plant. This initiative aims to meet the rising global demand for SBH, a key reducing agent used in pharmaceutical manufacturing and various chemical processes, supporting both European markets and international exports, including to India.

The expansion will significantly boost the plant’s drying capacity, enabling Kemira to better serve its pharmaceutical customers. SBH plays a critical role in producing active pharmaceutical ingredients and is widely utilized in chemical manufacturing. The project strengthens Kemira’s position as a reliable supplier in the growing global pharmaceutical industry while enhancing local production capabilities in Europe.

Antti Matula, Executive Vice President, Fiber Essentials, Kemira: “We see increased demand from our pharma customers from India and also from Europe. With this investment we will more than double the drying capacity of the plant, enabling us to respond to our customers’ needs and strengthen the local manufacturing base in Europe.”

Currently in the engineering phase, the new production line is expected to be fully operational by the fourth quarter of 2026. This development underscores Kemira’s commitment to supporting industrial growth through sustainable and efficient manufacturing solutions.
