Wedoany.com Report-Dec.4, Since the start of 2025, Kazakhstan has delivered approximately 390,000 tons of wheat to Algeria for the first time, with a total value exceeding $100 million, according to the press service of the Kazakh Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
The successful entry into the Algerian market was supported by government subsidies covering transportation costs in 2025, combined with active diplomatic engagement.
In early 2025, Kazakhstan’s Ambassador to Algeria, Anuarbek Akhmetov, met with Nasreddine Messaoud, Director General of the Algerian Intersectoral Office for Grain Crops (OAIC), the state agency responsible for centralized procurement of wheat and other grains. During the meeting, samples of Kazakh wheat accompanied by certified laboratory results were presented by JSC NC Food Contract Corporation. The OAIC Director commended the high quality of the grain and expressed strong interest in establishing regular supplies.
In June, Ambassador Akhmetov held discussions with Algerian Minister of Agriculture Youssef Cherfa, who voiced full support for broadening agricultural cooperation between the two countries, including increased imports of Kazakh grain.
Beyond wheat, Kazakhstan sees considerable opportunities to supply Algeria with meat, legumes, and various other agricultural products, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs noted.
Algeria ranks among the world’s largest importers of soft wheat, typically purchasing up to 9 million tons annually to meet domestic needs. All imports are coordinated centrally through the OAIC, which conducts regular international tenders to secure supplies.
The breakthrough wheat shipments demonstrate Kazakhstan’s growing presence in North African grain markets and highlight the effectiveness of combining competitive product quality with coordinated trade promotion and logistical support. The development opens the door for expanded bilateral trade in food and agricultural commodities in the coming years.
