Wedoany.com Report-Dec.9, Saudi Arabia's domestic wheat consumption is forecast to reach 4.6 million tonnes in the 2025/26 marketing year, reflecting steady annual growth of 3–4%. Growth is supported by three primary drivers: continued population increase, rising numbers of expatriate workers, and strong expansion in the tourism and hospitality sector.
The surge in tourism and food-service activity is expected to substantially boost demand for flour-based products such as bread, pastries and other bakery items in hotels, restaurants and catering operations.
The General Authority for Food Security (GFSA) projects local wheat production at 1.1 million tonnes for 2025/26, leaving an import requirement of approximately 3.1 million tonnes to meet total consumption needs.
To secure supplies, the GFSA has already contracted 2.05 million tonnes of wheat for delivery through April 2026. Russia remains the largest origin, followed by Romania, Brazil, Uruguay and Bulgaria.
These procurement volumes demonstrate Saudi Arabia's ongoing strategy to maintain stable grain availability through diversified international sourcing while domestic output covers a portion of national requirements. The combination of robust consumption growth and proactive import planning supports food-security objectives amid expanding economic and demographic pressures.
