Wedoany.com Report-Feb 25, A significant milestone has been reached in Namibia's exploration efforts as Portuguese oil and gas company Galp has discovered light oil and gas-condensate in the Mopane-3X well, located within the fifth well of its second exploration and appraisal program under Petroleum Exploration License 83 (PEL83). This discovery, made after completing the well in January 2025, comes alongside cored and logged prospects AVO-10, AVO-13, and deeper sand in the southeast region of the Mopane complex.

The PEL83 partnership includes Galp Energia as the operator (80%) and Custos Energy and NAMCOR (10% each), marking another successful phase in Namibia's hydrocarbon exploration. The reservoir log data confirms favorable geological conditions with high pressures, permeabilities, and porosities, while initial fluid samples show low oil viscosity and minimal CO2 and H2S concentrations, indicating a promising reservoir.

This discovery underscores the potential of Namibia's hydrocarbon resources and highlights Galp's role in advancing exploration. With the 3D seismic acquisition campaign expected to be completed in Q1 2025, further developments are anticipated to unlock additional exploration opportunities in the region. custos energy, the CEO Knowledge Katti, expressed satisfaction with the joint venture's progress and confidence in future prospects. The findings emphasize Namibia's position as a key player in the global hydrocarbon industry, with ongoing efforts to enhance exploration and appraisal capabilities.
