Wedoany.com Report-Mar 2, Green Marine UK has revealed a seven-figure investment to establish a new Subsea Services Department, focusing on the growing offshore wind sector in the UK. Supported by funding from Highlands and Islands Enterprise (HIE), the expansion involves acquiring advanced subsea technology from companies such as Rovtech (Seatronics), Sonardyne, Norbit, Voyis, Tritech, Digital Edge Subsea, and EIVA, along with various sensors.
The department, set to begin operations in late spring, will offer comprehensive in-house solutions and data services. These will include General Visual Inspection (GVI), 3D surveys with real-time SLAM (Simultaneous Localisation and Mapping) analysis, Marine Site Characterisation, Multibeam surveys, and operations and maintenance monitoring, targeting subsea cables, pipelines, and offshore structures.
Green Marine projects that the market for subsea operations and maintenance services in UK offshore wind could exceed £270 million by 2030. This estimate draws on research from Orec (Offshore Renewable Energy Catapult), a UK center for offshore renewable energy innovation.
Managing Director Jason Schofield noted that this move aligns with the company’s long-term growth strategy. He stated: “Green Marine has built a strong track record over many years with particular success in the offshore wind sector. The unique skills and experience we’ve developed during this period have put us in prime position to diversify in line with growing industry demand. While this entails an initial seven-figure capital investment, the longer-term company strategy is to continue investing and expanding way into the future. We benefit from a strategic location in Orkney with the world’s second largest installed offshore wind capacity on our doorstep. This represents a significant growth opportunity for Green Marine UK and a vehicle to drive jobs and business expansion for many years to come.”
Operations and Technology Director Myles Metson added that the expansion reflects the company’s approach to increasing its assets and internal capabilities. A notable acquisition for the new department is Rovtech’s VALOR ROV, purchased from Seatronics. This portable system is recognized for enhancing data collection and physical intervention standards, according to Green Marine UK.
The company has previously contributed to projects at Dogger Bank, the world’s largest offshore wind farm, and Kincardine, the largest floating offshore wind farm, showcasing its expertise in the field.
