Wedoany.com Report-Feb 26, Endeavour Energy has launched its Flexible Exports service for New South Wales households, designed to boost solar power exports to the grid and lower electricity bills. The initiative uses advanced AI technology to enhance energy efficiency and support a cleaner power network.

This service is projected to save households up to $200 annually on energy costs while adding at least 600MW of renewable energy capacity over the next ten years, sufficient to power 75,000 homes for a year. By reducing dependence on coal and gas, Flexible Exports aims to create a more sustainable energy system, utilizing AI developed by Gridsight.

CEO Guy Chalkley described the service as a significant advancement for customers in the state. “Until now, New South Wales households have faced fixed export limits that restrict how much solar they can send back to the grid, leaving large amounts of solar electricity unused,” he said. With Flexible Exports, eligible users can nearly double their export capacity, from 5kW to 10kW, for 95 percent of the year. Export limits will only apply when necessary to maintain grid stability.

“For years, solar customers have faced export restrictions due to the limitations of traditional grid infrastructure,” Mr. Chalkley said. “Our new flexible exports service is a first for customers living in our network. It will unlock the full potential of rooftop solar, giving households better returns on their renewable energy investments while supporting a cleaner, more sustainable energy future.”

The system builds on efforts by SA Power Networks and incorporates technology from Gridsight and SwitchDin. It analyzes data from 700,000 monitoring points to predict solar energy flows and adjust export limits based on real-time grid conditions, maximizing exports when capacity allows and ensuring stability during peak times.

After a successful trial with 100 customers in New South Wales, the service will expand to eligible solar users starting later in 2025. General Manager Future Grid, Colin Crisafulli, noted its importance for Australia’s energy network. “We’re already seeing solar energy that would have otherwise gone unused being successfully integrated into the grid. As we expand the rollout, we expect this technology to unlock substantial savings for customers and drive significant environmental benefits,” he said.

Endeavour Energy aims to decarbonize the grid by 2035, with Flexible Exports contributing 600MW of renewable capacity, generating over $100 million in additional solar exports. This effort supports Australia’s move toward a more resilient and sustainable energy system, helping households maximize their solar investments while reducing costs.
