Wedoany.com Report-Apr. 11, Canadian design and engineering firm Stantec has acquired Ryan Hanley, an Irish engineering and environmental consultancy, to strengthen its role in Ireland’s water sector. The move builds on a partnership that began in 2020, with the two firms sharing an office in Dublin’s city center, opened in 2024.
Stantec and Ryan Hanley have collaborated on projects for Uisce Éireann, Ireland’s water utility, through their joint venture. The acquisition aims to expand Stantec’s connections with local authorities, government bodies, private clients, and utility providers across Ireland. Ryan Hanley brings expertise in water management, wastewater systems, flood risk planning, structural engineering, and environmental services.
Gord Johnston, Stantec’s president, stated: “Through deep and meaningful collaboration, Ryan Hanley and Stantec have proven our ability to deliver outstanding results for clients and communities in Ireland.” This acquisition reflects Stantec’s commitment to enhancing its services while supporting local needs.
Ryan Hanley, established in 1931, employs 150 professionals across offices in Dublin, Galway, Cork, and Castlebar. Ger Gibney, Ryan Hanley’s managing director, said: “Over the last 90 years, we have grown to become a values-driven business, founded on passion and integrity as well as doing what is right for communities and the environment. This will not change as Ryan Hanley becomes part of Stantec, a firm that has shown itself to be a hugely valuable partner with an ethos similar to our own. We are all excited for what feels like a natural stage in our evolution.”
The acquisition aligns with Stantec’s growth strategy, following its 2024 purchase of UK-based engineering firm Hydrock and the 2021 acquisition of GTA Consultants, an Australian transportation planning company. While the financial details of the Ryan Hanley deal were not disclosed, the move is expected to enhance Stantec’s ability to deliver sustainable infrastructure solutions in Ireland.
This partnership strengthens Stantec’s presence in Ireland, fostering opportunities to address water and environmental challenges. Both firms share a focus on community-driven outcomes, ensuring continued support for Ireland’s infrastructure and sustainability goals. Further updates on their collaborative efforts will be shared as projects progress.
