Wedoany.com Report-May 11, Great Yarmouth Borough Council in the UK has selected Willmott Dixon as the development partner for the North Quays Waterfront regeneration project. This initiative aims to transform a 10.5-acre site into a vibrant mixed-use development featuring leisure, retail, residential, and public spaces, fostering job creation and boosting tourism in the area.
The project aims to create a mixed-use development.
The project seeks to enhance Great Yarmouth’s economic prospects while preserving its rich heritage. Located near the town’s train station, the North Quays site is strategically positioned to improve connectivity and serve as a gateway to the town center. The development will introduce modern amenities to benefit residents, businesses, and visitors, strengthening the town’s appeal as a destination.
Carl Smith, leader of Great Yarmouth Borough Council, stated: “We are hugely excited to be bringing forward the town’s most significant development opportunity in a generation. North Quay is a key site which will become a vibrant new destination and will further enhance the town’s already prosperous economic future.”
Community consultation and stakeholder engagement are planned for later this year to refine the project proposals, with a formal planning application expected in early 2026. The council secured £20m ($26.6m) from the national government’s Levelling Up Fund last year to support land assembly and prepare the site for development, laying the foundation for this transformative project.
David Atkinson, Willmott Dixon’s national head of land and development, said: “We’re thrilled to be bringing forward an exciting mixed-use regeneration project in Great Yarmouth. North Quay represents a fantastic opportunity to deliver long-term benefits for the local community and visitors – including new homes, commercial spaces, jobs and public spaces which support Great Yarmouth’s growth.”
Willmott Dixon brings experience from similar projects, having led regeneration efforts in Dover’s town center and the towns of Torquay and Paignton. The company’s expertise will ensure the North Quays project balances modern development with the town’s historical character, creating a sustainable and accessible hub for the community.
The North Quays regeneration is poised to revitalize Great Yarmouth by enhancing its infrastructure and economic vitality. By integrating residential, commercial, and leisure facilities, the project will attract visitors, support local businesses, and provide new opportunities for residents. The collaboration between the council and Willmott Dixon reflects a shared commitment to delivering a high-quality development that respects the town’s heritage while meeting contemporary needs, contributing to the long-term prosperity of the region.
