Wedoany.com Report-May 25, In April 2025, China imported 9.117 million tons of grain, including 6.081 million tons of soybeans, according to data from China’s Customs Administration, as reported by Zerno On-Line. This marks a decrease from April 2024, when grain imports totaled 14.602 million tons, with soybeans accounting for 8.572 million tons.

The decline in grain imports reflects varied trends across specific crops. Wheat imports dropped significantly to 760,000 tons, a 61% reduction compared to the previous year. Barley imports fell to 1.15 million tons, down 29%, while corn imports saw the sharpest decline, reaching 180,000 tons, an 85% decrease from April 2024. These shifts indicate adjustments in China’s grain import patterns, influenced by domestic demand and global supply dynamics.

Despite the overall reduction, soybeans remained the largest component of grain imports, underscoring their importance to China’s agricultural and industrial sectors. The country’s consistent demand for soybeans supports its food processing and livestock feed industries, while the lower import volumes for wheat, barley, and corn suggest a strategic recalibration of import needs, possibly due to improved domestic production or changes in consumption patterns.

The data highlights China’s active role in global grain markets, balancing import requirements with domestic supply capabilities. The Customs Administration’s figures provide insight into the country’s agricultural trade trends, reflecting a cautious approach to grain procurement in 2025.
