Hitachi Energy Provides Hydrogen-Power Technology for Green Energy Project in China

Wedoany.com Report-May 30, Hitachi Energy Ltd. has supplied rectifier transformers for a hydrogen technology park in Songyuan, China, developed by China Energy Engineering Corporation (CEEC). The transformers ensure a reliable power supply for producing hydrogen from renewable energy sources, supporting sustainable industrial processes at the facility.

The Songyuan project is one of the world’s largest integrated green hydrogen, ammonia, and methanol initiatives. It plans to establish a 3-gigawatt renewable energy facility, powered by wind and solar, to produce hydrogen through water electrolysis. The hydrogen will be used to synthesize ammonia and methanol, creating a comprehensive clean energy value chain. Annually, the project aims to produce 800,000 metric tons of green synthetic ammonia and methanol, contributing to low-carbon industrial solutions.

Wang Lin, CEEC’s project director, stated: “This project is a landmark in our efforts to advance clean energy technologies. The reliable performance of Hitachi Energy’s transformers is critical to achieving efficient and sustainable hydrogen production.” Hitachi Energy’s rectifier transformers, known for their compact design and high stability, offer low energy losses and strong resistance to harmonics, ensuring safe and cost-effective operations.

Hitachi Energy, with nearly 80 years of expertise in rectifier transformer technology, supports industries such as hydrogen production, metallurgy, and chemical engineering. The company’s solutions enhance the Songyuan project’s efficiency, which is among China’s first low-carbon technology demonstration projects recognized by the National Development and Reform Commission. It also aligns with Jilin Province’s “Hydrogen Powering Jilin” initiative, promoting regional clean energy development.

In late 2024, China outlined plans to accelerate clean hydrogen adoption in industries, emphasizing its role in reducing carbon emissions and modernizing industrial processes. The Songyuan project supports these goals by replacing fossil fuels with green hydrogen derivatives, focusing on domestic industrial needs without affecting trade dynamics. The integrated facility strengthens China’s position in sustainable energy, fostering economic and environmental benefits in the northeast region.

The collaboration between Hitachi Energy and CEEC highlights the importance of advanced technology in scaling green hydrogen production, contributing to a low-carbon future for China’s industrial sector.
