Wedoany.com Report-Aug. 17, Team Telecom Armenia has unveiled a comprehensive initiative to upgrade its mobile network, focusing on enhancing connectivity and digital security throughout Armenia. The project includes phasing out its 2G network, with the shutdown commencing on November 15, 2025.
Introduced in Armenia in 1995, the 2G network, now 30 years old, no longer meets modern technological demands. Transitioning to advanced systems will support safer and more efficient communication services. By reallocating frequencies, infrastructure, and resources from the 2G network, Team Telecom Armenia plans to accelerate the expansion of 4G and 5G coverage across the country, including remote regions.
Over 1,000 base stations will shift to operate solely on modern technologies, delivering faster and more reliable mobile and internet services. The outdated 2G network limited users to basic voice services with minimal internet access, restricting the use of contemporary communication tools. In contrast, 4G and 5G networks enable simultaneous voice and data usage while being more energy-efficient, contributing to reduced environmental impact.
This modernization aligns with Team Telecom Armenia’s strategy to provide advanced, accessible, and sustainable connectivity nationwide. To ensure a smooth transition, the company will offer subscribers using 2G-only devices over the past three months the opportunity to obtain modern technology-compatible devices. Details of this program are available on the company’s website.
Hayk Yesayan, CEO of Team Telecom Armenia, stated: “Recognizing the importance of timely optimization and the deployment of the latest technologies, we are ready to be the first to take this step, making innovative solutions even more accessible to our customers. This move will allow us to modernize mobile coverage, boost network efficiency, and significantly improve quality.”
The initiative reflects Team Telecom Armenia’s commitment to improving service quality and expanding access to cutting-edge communication technologies. By prioritizing next-generation networks, the company aims to enhance user experience, support digital innovation, and promote sustainable practices across Armenia’s telecommunications landscape.
