Wedoany.com Report-Aug. 26, Black Cat Syndicate has initiated underground mining at the Majestic site, part of its Kal East Gold operation, located 45 kilometers southeast of Kalgoorlie, Western Australia. The company has partnered with Australian mining services provider Macmahon, which secured a A$55 million ($35.6 million) contract to oversee mine development and production services at the site for 12 months.
The Majestic main decline portal is located ~100m below the surface.
Macmahon will manage comprehensive mining operations at Majestic, situated near the Lakewood processing facility. Michael Finnegan, Macmahon’s Managing Director and CEO, stated: “We are delighted to be selected as the preferred mining contractor at the Majestic Mining Centre and look forward to supporting Black Cat Syndicate in their growth plans for the Kal East Gold Operation. This contract award reflects Macmahon’s strategic focus of increasing scale in our underground business and I would like to thank our team for their continued dedication and support in building new, trusted client relationships.”
The Majestic mine aims to produce 776,000 tonnes of ore at 3.2 grams per tonne, targeting 80,000 ounces of gold, with 63% of this goal already classified as Ore Reserve. Black Cat Syndicate plans further drilling to expand resource estimates, focusing on areas that remain open at depth and along strike. These efforts aim to enhance the project’s resource base and support long-term production.
Preparations for essential infrastructure, including long-term dewatering systems and portal support installation, are underway. Additionally, equipment mobilization is progressing at the nearby Fingals open pit, with site establishment activities paving the way for expanded mining operations. Black Cat Syndicate noted that these projects will ensure a steady ore supply to the Lakewood processing facility for the foreseeable future.
Gareth Solly, Black Cat’s Managing Director, commented: “Dewatering is complete, portal ground support is installed and development of our first underground mine at Kal East is underway. Majestic remains open at depth and along strike and underground drilling is planned to commence as soon as possible for both Resource extension and grade control. Developing Majestic underground marks another milestone as we deliver on our strategy of More Gold, Sooner.”
The Majestic underground mine represents a key step in Black Cat Syndicate’s strategy to expand its Kal East Gold operation, leveraging Macmahon’s expertise to enhance production efficiency and support sustainable growth in Western Australia’s gold mining sector.
