Wedoany.com Report-Sept. 18, Solvay has inaugurated a major expansion of its facility in Zhenjiang, China, doubling its annual production capacity of electronic grade hydrogen peroxide (H2O2). The investment highlights the company’s commitment to supporting the semiconductor industry, where this ultra-pure chemical is a critical material in integrated circuit manufacturing.

This expansion builds upon Solvay's initial launch of electronic grade H2O2 production at this site in 2018 and directly addresses the escalating demand for these vital materials.

Electronic grade H2O2 plays an essential role in the cleaning and etching processes used in chip production. Its production requires extraordinary levels of purity, with impurities measured in single-digit parts per trillion, a standard comparable to finding a grain of salt in a soccer field. Achieving this quality level demands advanced capabilities, available to only a limited number of manufacturers worldwide.

The Zhenjiang expansion builds on Solvay’s initial launch of electronic grade H2O2 at the same site in 2018. The increased output directly responds to the accelerating demand for high-purity materials, driven by continuous advancements in electronic devices and the industry’s need to maintain the pace of transistor growth on integrated circuits.

Carlos Silveira, President of Solvay’s Peroxides business, emphasized the significance of this expansion: “This significant capacity increase demonstrates our agility and dedication to customers in the rapidly expanding electronics sector. Thanks to Zhenjiang’s well-established business environment and specialized support, this expansion strategically positions us to continue supplying critical materials for the next generation of technological innovation. Our Interox Pico grades offer industry-leading purity and uniformity, supported by identical manufacturing processes across our global production facilities, which is a crucial factor for semiconductor producers seeking worldwide consistency.”

The inauguration ceremony, held on September 15, 2025, was attended by leaders of the Zhenjiang Economic and Technological Development Zone, along with Solvay CEO Philippe Kehren and Peroxide GBU President Carlos Silveira. Their participation underscored the strategic importance of the expansion both locally and globally.

The project also complements Solvay’s wider network of investments in the United States, Europe, Taiwan, and China, reinforcing its leading position in the electronic chemicals market. Beyond semiconductors, electronic grade H2O2 is also vital in other high-technology applications, including flat panel displays, photovoltaics, and MEMS/LED fabrication.

By doubling production at Zhenjiang, Solvay strengthens its role as a reliable supplier for industries dependent on ultra-pure materials. The expansion ensures greater supply security while enabling customers to meet the stringent demands of advanced electronics manufacturing.

With this investment, Solvay demonstrates its ongoing focus on innovation, global consistency, and long-term partnerships with semiconductor producers. The development positions the company to play a central role in the supply of critical materials needed for technological progress in the years ahead.
