Wedoany.com Report-Oct. 14, Caterpillar has announced an agreement to acquire RPMGlobal Holdings, an Australian software company, to strengthen its mining technology offerings. Financial terms were not disclosed.
Caterpillar manufactures mining and construction equipment.
Headquartered in Brisbane, RPMGlobal has provided mining software solutions since 1977. Its products cover the full mining life cycle, offering data-driven tools that complement Caterpillar’s existing asset management, fleet management, and autonomous technologies.
Denise Johnson, president of Caterpillar’s Resource Industries group, said: “RPMGlobal’s culture and agile approach to developing solutions aligns well with Caterpillar’s intense focus on solving customer needs. Their software solutions complement Caterpillar’s existing technologies, especially in areas such as asset management, fleet management and autonomy. Together, we have the potential to enhance mine-site operations for our customers, unlocking even greater value.”
The acquisition is subject to approval by RPMGlobal shareholders and regulatory authorities and is expected to close in the first quarter of 2026. JP Morgan Securities is serving as Caterpillar’s financial advisor for the deal.
Caterpillar, which reported $64.8 billion in sales and revenues in 2024, manufactures construction and mining equipment, off-highway diesel and natural gas engines, industrial gas turbines, and diesel-electric locomotives. The company has been actively expanding its mining solutions through technology partnerships and innovation.
Earlier this year, Brazilian mining firm Vale signed a five-year collaboration with Caterpillar focused on productivity, innovation, and carbon reduction. The partnership includes developing a dual-fuel haul truck capable of operating on both diesel and ethanol.
In September 2024, BHP announced plans to test Caterpillar’s energy transfer technology. The Cat DET system allows energy to be transferred to mining trucks during operation, enabling in-motion charging of electric haul truck batteries. These initiatives highlight Caterpillar’s commitment to advancing sustainable, technology-driven solutions for the mining sector.
The acquisition of RPMGlobal is expected to further integrate software and digital solutions into Caterpillar’s mining equipment portfolio, providing operators with enhanced tools to improve efficiency, safety, and operational decision-making. By combining RPMGlobal’s data-driven platforms with Caterpillar’s existing technologies, the company aims to deliver more comprehensive mine-site management solutions and support the transition toward smarter, more autonomous mining operations.
Overall, this strategic move reflects Caterpillar’s ongoing focus on addressing customer needs through innovation, combining hardware and software capabilities to drive operational performance, reduce costs, and create value for the mining industry globally.
