Wedoany.com Report-Oct. 16, Jacobs and Sundt Construction are executing a $600 million design-build contract for the Kino to Country Club Project in Pima County, Arizona. Construction began in mid-2025 and is expected to continue through 2028, enhancing a key transportation corridor in Tucson.
Tucson in Arizona will benefit from improved traffic flow once widening work is complete for a key stretch of I-10
The project focuses on widening a 5km section of Interstate 10 (I-10), reconstructing several interchanges, and increasing road capacity to improve travel times and safety for drivers. The Arizona Department of Transportation (ADOT), the project’s client, oversees the initiative, which aligns with regional transportation goals.
ADOT noted that this project is the first to emerge from the Interstate 10 and State Route 210 Transportation Design Concept Report, finalized in 2020. It was incorporated into the 2024-2028 Five-Year Transportation Facilities Construction Program, highlighting its priority in Arizona’s infrastructure plans.
The scope includes expanding I-10 to three general-purpose lanes in each direction between milepost 262 (east of Park Avenue) and Alvernon Way. Key tasks involve rebuilding the I-10 and Kino Parkway interchange, constructing a new interchange at I-10 and Country Club Road, and removing the existing interchange at Palo Verde Road and I-10. Additionally, a new westbound I-10 entrance ramp from Alvernon Way and an underpass connecting the North and South Kino Sports Complex will be built.
These improvements aim to enhance connectivity and streamline traffic flow in Tucson, supporting both local commuters and regional travel. The project’s design prioritizes safety and efficiency, addressing growing transportation demands in Pima County.
The collaboration between Jacobs and Sundt Construction leverages their combined expertise in large-scale infrastructure projects. Their work ensures that the upgrades meet modern standards while accommodating future growth in the region.
ADOT emphasized: “This is the first project to come out of the Interstate 10 and State Route 210 Transportation Design Concept Report that was completed in 2020.” The initiative reflects a strategic approach to modernizing Arizona’s highway system, improving access to key areas like the Kino Sports Complex.
By expanding lane capacity and reconfiguring interchanges, the project will reduce congestion and enhance safety for drivers. The underpass and new ramps will improve access to local facilities, fostering economic activity and community connectivity.
The Kino to Country Club Project represents a significant investment in Arizona’s transportation infrastructure. Its completion by 2028 will deliver lasting benefits, supporting Tucson’s development as a vibrant regional hub.
