Wedoany.com Report-Oct. 17, Brazil’s Gol Linhas Aereas Inteligentes SA has signed a leasing agreement with Avolon Aerospace for five Airbus A330-900neo aircraft and a letter of intent for up to two more, the airline and its controlling shareholder, Abra Group, announced on Thursday. The deliveries are scheduled for 2026, according to Gol’s filing with the securities regulator. The company stated that the aircraft may be operated by any carrier within the Abra Group, which also includes Colombian airline Avianca. The financial terms of the transaction were not disclosed.

Gol emphasized that the agreement will not have any immediate financial impact: “There is no immediate financial effect for Gol as a result of the signing of the contracts, nor are there any definitive investments or commitments for any companies that make up the Abra Group.”

Abra said in a separate statement that both the leasing deal and the letter of intent are part of its strategic plan to expand its international operations using wide-body aircraft. The group aims to increase connectivity across Europe and the Americas, strengthening its position in long-haul markets.

In addition to the A330-900neo leasing arrangement, Abra also announced the signing of an agreement for 50 additional purchase options of Airbus A320neo aircraft. This comes on top of 88 A320neo units already under contract, demonstrating the group’s ongoing commitment to fleet modernization and capacity expansion. Abra did not specify whether this agreement was related to Gol’s deal with Avolon.

Abra CEO Adrian Neuhauser stated: “This announcement confirms that we continue to make the necessary investments in line with our commitment to providing increasing access to air transportation to millions of people.” His remarks reflect the group’s focus on sustainable growth and enhancing passenger accessibility across key markets.

The addition of A330-900neo aircraft will give the Abra Group greater flexibility in its long-haul network, enabling member airlines like Gol and Avianca to open new international routes and enhance service frequency on existing ones. These aircraft, part of Airbus’s new-generation fleet, are designed to improve fuel efficiency and reduce operating costs, aligning with global aviation trends toward sustainability and efficiency.

Separately, Abra revealed on Wednesday its plan to confidentially submit a draft registration statement for a proposed initial public offering (IPO) in the United States. The group did not provide details about the size or timing of the offering but noted that the move forms part of its broader financial and operational development strategy.

Gol, one of Brazil’s leading carriers, continues to strengthen its partnership with Abra as part of its long-term plan to expand regional and international connectivity. The combined initiatives — including the leasing of wide-body jets, the expansion of narrow-body options, and preparations for a potential IPO — underscore Abra’s ambition to position itself as a major aviation group in the Americas.
