Wedoany.com Report-Nov. 11, Thailand's Board of Investment (BOI) has approved four new data centre projects with a total value of $3.1 billion. The package includes an 84-megawatt (MW) facility from Dubai-based DAMAC Digital, worth about 26.7 billion baht ($740 million), and a 200-MW hyperscale project from a local investor, valued at 54.9 billion baht ($1.5 billion). The other two projects make up the remaining investment.
Separately, the BOI issued six new licences to restart earlier initiatives worth $9.2 billion. These had been delayed due to issues with electricity supply, industrial land, and visa and work-permit procedures. BOI Chairman Narit Therdsteerasukdi stated that the actions seek to “strengthen investor confidence and support employment and broader economic development in Thailand.”
“The kingdom is actively positioning itself as a key Southeast Asian hub for hyperscale data centres,” Therdsteerasukdi said. “These approvals demonstrate our commitment to facilitating world-class digital infrastructure investment.”
The data centre industry in Thailand has expanded quickly. In the first six months of 2025, the BOI approved 28 projects totalling 521.2 billion baht ($14.5 billion). The country provides tax benefits, faster approvals, and land in areas like the Eastern Economic Corridor to draw local and international funds.
The new approvals, especially the 200-MW facility, indicate a move toward larger infrastructure for cloud computing, artificial intelligence, and business applications. Experts highlight that adequate electricity and land are vital for completion.
One development is in Rayong province, an industrial area previously selected for major data centre growth. Although exact sites for the four new projects remain undisclosed, they are likely to locate in zones with stable power and networks.
The BOI decision occurs as neighbouring countries compete for similar investments. Singapore, Malaysia, and Vietnam offer their own incentives to cloud operators and enterprises. Thailand's measures intend to keep its advantage and speed up digital facility rollout.
Specialists note that prompt project delivery will help meet rising needs for cloud services, data storage, and AI tasks in Southeast Asia.
Successful implementation of the new and revived initiatives could create many jobs, increase energy use, and boost digital capabilities, solidifying Thailand's role in the regional technology landscape.
