Wedoany.com Report-Dec.8, Mondi Dynäs has successfully completed a major multi-year modernisation programme at its kraft paper mill in Kramfors, Sweden. The upgrade includes a new fibre line, continuous digester, bark boiler, bark dryer and tall oil plant.
The fibre line and digester were brought into operation during the site's annual maintenance shutdown in May 2025.
The investment is designed to secure long-term competitiveness, improve energy and water efficiency, reduce fossil fuel use and strengthen environmental performance. The new bark boiler significantly lowers carbon emissions, while the advanced digester enhances pulp quality, increases paper strength and optimises resource consumption.
The Dynäs mill holds the official Guinness World Records title (Swedish edition) for producing the world's strongest paper.
Commissioning of the fibre line and digester took place during the scheduled annual maintenance shutdown in May 2025. Construction was executed within the tightly constrained existing mill footprint while maintaining ongoing production. At peak, the site hosted up to 650 workers — more than 50% above normal staffing levels.
Safety was managed through continuous on-site presence and close coordination between Safety, Health and Environment teams and operational functions.
Mondi Dynäs sustainability manager Malin Sjöstrand said: "High visibility, frequent engagement and close collaboration between Safety Health and Environment teams and site functions helped keep safety at the forefront every day."
The completed modernisation increases production capacity, reduces the mill's environmental footprint and reinforces Mondi Dynäs's position as a leading producer of high-performance kraft paper grades.
