Wedoany.com Report-Apr. 12, Boskalis has successfully completed a significant task for the East Anglia Three offshore wind farm in the North Sea. The company’s subsea rock installation vessel, Rockpiper, played a central role in this achievement, finalizing a crucial stage of work for ScottishPower Renewables’ wind energy project.

The operation involved placing 95 rock berms on the seabed to protect the foundations of future wind turbines from erosion. Additionally, one pre-lay rock pad was installed to support the base of the upcoming offshore converter station. These structures ensure stability for the wind farm’s infrastructure, located off the coast of East Anglia.

A spokesperson from Boskalis shared details of the effort: “To execute this project, Rockpiper made 13 trips from quarries in Norway to the offshore wind farm – and back – installing approximately 287,500 tonnes of rock during the 114-day campaign.” The vessel’s frequent voyages highlight the scale of the undertaking, which spanned several months and required precise coordination.

The spokesperson also noted a distinctive feature of the project: “Unique about this project is that the design of each rock berm varies slightly. In other words, routine work was not an option for East Anglia Three.” This variation demanded adaptability from the team, as each berm required a tailored approach rather than a standard process.

Despite the complexity, the Rockpiper crew and project team rose to the challenge. The spokesperson emphasized their capability: “But is that an issue for the experienced crew of the Rockpiper and the project team? Absolutely not!” Their expertise ensured the successful completion of the task, with all 95 rock berms now securely positioned on the North Sea floor.

The spokesperson concluded with praise for the team: “The results speak for themselves: 95 different rock berms on the bottom of the North Sea, providing a solid foundation for the future offshore wind farm. We thank the crew of the Rockpiper and our project team for their hard work and dedication during this project.” This milestone marks a key step forward in the development of the East Anglia Three wind farm, supporting its progress toward generating renewable energy.

The work, completed as of early April 2025, showcases Boskalis’ contribution to sustainable energy infrastructure in the region. With the rock installation phase now finished, the project moves closer to its next stages, laying the groundwork for the wind farm’s future operations.
