Wedoany.com Report-Apr. 8, PNE Group, a German wind energy developer, has secured permits for two onshore wind farms in Hesse and a ground-mounted photovoltaic (PV) power plant in Brandenburg, Germany. These approvals strengthen the company’s renewable energy portfolio and support its goal of expanding wind and solar power facilities.

PNE Group’s strategy focuses on growth, balancing project sales with the expansion of its wind and PV power plants.

In central Hesse, the Herzhausen wind farm will include six turbines, each producing 5.5 megawatts (MW), for a total capacity of 33 MW. In northern Hesse, the Welsche-Lied wind farm will feature four turbines: three with 7.2 MW each and one with 6.2 MW, yielding a combined output of 27.8 MW. Meanwhile, in Brandenburg, the Altlandsberg PV power plant will consist of 200,200 modules, delivering a total rated capacity of 124 megawatts peak. Together, these projects will generate 184.8 MW, enough to supply electricity to 73,000 three-person households annually.

These developments align with PNE’s strategy to grow its renewable energy assets. The company balances selling projects with building its own power plants. PNE chief executive officer Heiko Wuttke commented: “The licences received are an important step for our further growth. They allow us to further expand our own generation portfolio.” The firm targets a generation capacity of 1.1 gigawatts (GW) in operation or under construction by 2027, supported by a project pipeline ranging from 10 GW to 15 GW.

The Herzhausen and Welsche-Lied wind farms will harness wind resources in Hesse, while the Altlandsberg PV plant will tap solar energy in Brandenburg. These efforts reflect PNE’s commitment to diversifying its renewable energy sources across Germany. The projects are expected to contribute significantly to the region’s clean energy supply, meeting growing demand sustainably.

In a related move, PNE sold five solar PV projects in Romania, totaling 208 MW, to TotalEnergies Renewables, a division of TotalEnergies, in July 2023. This transaction highlights the company’s approach to managing its portfolio, using sales to fund further expansion. The newly permitted projects in Germany mark a continuation of PNE’s focus on increasing its operational capacity.

With these permits, PNE Group advances its role in Germany’s renewable energy sector. The combination of wind and solar projects underscores its efforts to build a robust and varied energy portfolio, contributing to sustainable power generation for years to come.
