Wedoany.com Report-Apr. 17, KBR, Inc., based in Houston, has been awarded a contract by Hanwha Impact Corp. to supply its ammonia cracking technology for a clean power generation facility in South Korea. This marks the second collaboration between KBR and Hanwha, following a prior ammonia-cracking contract with ISU Chemical in Ulsan, South Korea.

The agreement involves KBR providing technology licensing, proprietary engineering design, equipment, and services for a facility capable of producing 214 metric tons of hydrogen per day. The plant will employ KBR’s H2ACT ammonia cracking technology to generate clean hydrogen, supporting South Korea’s efforts to reduce carbon emissions. “We are grateful for the trust Hanwha has placed in KBR to support their growth plans,” said Jay Ibrahim, President of KBR Sustainable Technology Solutions. “KBR’s innovative H2ACT technology was previously selected by Hanwha for large-scale, sustainable hydrogen production, and this new award utilizes a design intended to further enhance the cost-efficiency of the project.”

KBR’s H2ACT technology builds on the company’s extensive experience in ammonia production, having supported over 260 grassroots plants since 1944. The technology is designed to optimize energy efficiency and minimize CO2 emissions, offering a reliable and sustainable solution for clean hydrogen production. “This contract reinforces our commitment to delivering innovative solutions that align with global sustainability goals,” said a KBR representative.

The new facility will contribute to Hanwha Impact’s strategy to expand clean energy production in South Korea. By leveraging KBR’s advanced technology, the plant aims to provide a cost-effective and environmentally friendly hydrogen supply, meeting the growing demand for sustainable energy sources. “The H2ACT technology enables us to produce clean hydrogen efficiently, supporting our vision for a low-carbon future,” said a Hanwha Impact spokesperson.

KBR’s ongoing partnership with Hanwha underscores its leadership in ammonia-based technologies and its role in advancing clean energy initiatives. The project in South Korea is expected to set a benchmark for efficient hydrogen production, fostering innovation in the energy sector. By integrating cutting-edge design and engineering, KBR and Hanwha are driving progress toward a more sustainable energy landscape, benefiting both the environment and the regional economy.
