Wedoany.com Report-Jun 14, Orlen Neptun, a subsidiary of the Orlen Group, has launched Poland’s first offshore wind farm installation terminal in Świnoujście. Officially opened in June, the facility is set to play a strategic role in supporting Orlen’s phase two offshore wind projects and will also serve external operators. Ocean Winds has become the first external partner to sign a long-term lease agreement, making Świnoujście a central hub in their BC-Wind project.
The terminal is designed to handle the assembly and deployment of several dozen wind turbines each year. With its capacity and location, it is expected to become one of the most important offshore wind installation centers in the Baltic Sea region.
Orlen Group’s Chief Executive Officer and President of the Management Board, Ireneusz Fąfara, stated: “The installation terminal in Świnoujście is yet another pioneering offshore wind investment we’re delivering in Poland. We’re not just building infrastructure – we’re laying the foundations for an entirely new, future-ready sector of the economy. Offshore wind power will supply homes, businesses and transport with clean, reliable energy, while also opening the door to new areas of industrial growth. Świnoujście will be our base for executing future offshore wind projects, in which Polish capital will play a major role with close to 50% participation.”
As part of the contract, Ocean Winds will lease nearly the entire facility to support the construction of the BC-Wind offshore wind farm. This project site is located around 150 nautical miles (approximately 228 km) from the Świnoujście port. The terminal will be responsible for receiving, storing, and preparing turbine foundations before they are transported to sea. It will also serve as the main loading point for components onto installation vessels. Local contractors will be engaged to provide cargo handling and port services.
Kacper Kostrzewa, Managing Director of Ocean Winds Poland, said: “We’re pleased to have established this partnership and to have selected the port in Świnoujście as a key hub for delivering the BC-Wind offshore wind farm. It is a state-of-the-art facility that fully meets both our technical requirements and project timelines. BC-Wind is Ocean Winds’ first project in the Baltic Sea and a strong example of real engagement with the local supply chain. We’re committed to creating value together with our Polish partners and to strengthening the local market’s capabilities in offshore wind energy.”
The terminal has been developed to handle large-scale logistics operations for offshore wind infrastructure. It can accommodate jack-up and heavy-lift vessels used for the installation of wind turbines with capacities around 15MW. Facilities include unloading, stacking, and loading areas for major components such as monopile foundations, towers, blades, nacelles, and cables. Additionally, the site is equipped to receive offshore substation topsides weighing up to 24,000 tonnes. The terminal will be staffed by several dozen employees.
