Wedoany.com Report-Aug. 12, The Solar Energy Corporation of India Limited (SECI) has successfully conducted its first auction for the procurement of green ammonia under the SIGHT Scheme. This auction, aimed at securing 75,000 metric tonnes per annum of green ammonia for Paradeep Phosphates Limited in Odisha, resulted in a record low price of INR 55.75 per kilogram (kg).
The auction is part of a series of 13 planned auctions under a broader procurement scheme with a cumulative capacity of 7.24 lakh metric tonnes per year. The discovered price of INR 55.75 per kg, which translates to approximately $641 per metric tonne, marks a significant drop from the previous price of INR 100.28 per kg (or $1,153 per metric tonne) discovered during the H2Global auction in 2024.
This price reduction reflects the growing competitiveness and cost-effectiveness of green ammonia, especially when compared to the current price of grey ammonia, which stands at approximately $515 per metric tonne as of March 2025. The ministry highlighted that this 10-year fixed-price bid offers a strong economic incentive for offtakers to begin their transition to clean energy.
The successful auction further supports India’s clean energy initiatives and the growing demand for sustainable alternatives in key sectors. By providing a more affordable and reliable supply of green ammonia, SECI is paving the way for long-term renewable energy projects and helping drive the country's energy transition.
