Wedoany.com Report-Aug. 29, China-based energy storage solutions provider HiTHIUM has secured a contract from the Saudi Electricity Company (SEC) to develop two battery energy storage system (BESS) projects with a combined capacity of 4 gigawatt-hours (GWh) in Saudi Arabia’s northern provinces of Tabuk and Hail. The initiative supports efforts to enhance grid reliability and integrate renewable energy sources.

Power 6.25MWh Desert Eagle series containerised systems are built to withstand Saudi Arabia’s extreme climate conditions.

The projects will utilize HiTHIUM’s advanced long-duration energy storage battery cells within 6.25 megawatt-hour (MWh) BESS units. These units incorporate the company’s innovative ∞Cell 1175Ah technology, recognized as the world’s first mass-produced long-duration energy storage solution. The ∞Power 6.25MWh Desert Eagle series containerized systems are engineered to operate effectively in Saudi Arabia’s challenging climate.

Designed for durability, the systems feature multi-layer insulation that reduces internal temperatures by 8–10°C, ensuring reliable performance in conditions ranging from -30°C to 60°C. Fully sealed components and automated dust alerts minimize maintenance needs, with critical parts rated for over 40,000 hours of continuous operation.

The BESS units will provide essential grid services, including load shifting, frequency regulation, voltage support, and black-start capabilities, enabling a power plant to restart the grid after a complete shutdown using on-site resources. These features will facilitate greater use of renewable energy and reduce reliance on fossil fuels.

HiTHIUM will oversee system design, equipment supply, installation supervision, and long-term maintenance. Alfanar Projects, a local partner, will lead the construction efforts, with commissioning targeted for 2026. This collaboration aligns with Saudi Arabia’s Vision 2030, which aims to advance sustainable energy and grid stability.

Keramat Fakhari, HiTHIUM’s MEA president, stated: “This landmark 4GWh project marks a pivotal moment — not just for Saudi Arabia, but for HiTHIUM’s commitment to delivering mission-critical energy storage where it matters most. By integrating our industry-leading ∞Cell technology with SEC’s vision and Alfanar’s regional expertise, we’re redefining renewable integration in extreme environments. The deployments in Tabuk and Hail set a new benchmark for gigawatt-scale storage globally, proving HiTHIUM’s role in accelerating the clean energy transition.”

This project builds on HiTHIUM’s global efforts, including a partnership with Samsung C&T Engineering & Construction Group announced in January 2025, to meet the growing worldwide demand for advanced energy storage solutions. The Tabuk and Hail projects position HiTHIUM as a key player in supporting sustainable energy development.
