Wedoany.com Report-Aug. 29, Subsea7, a global leader in offshore energy solutions, has been awarded a significant contract by the Turkish Petroleum Offshore Technology Center (TP-OTC) to deliver subsea umbilicals, risers, and flowlines (SURF) for phase 3 of the Sakarya gas field development in the Black Sea. This follows an inspection, repair, and maintenance (IRM) services contract announced at the end of 2024. The SURF engineering, procurement, construction, and installation (EPCI) contract is valued between $750 million and $1.25 billion, marking it as a major project for Subsea7.

The Sakarya gas field, located approximately 150 kilometers off the coast of Ereğli, is Türkiye’s largest natural gas discovery. Project management and engineering activities will begin immediately, coordinated from Subsea7’s office in Istanbul, ensuring efficient execution and local expertise.

This contract builds on Subsea7’s ongoing involvement in the Sakarya project. In May 2023, a consortium including Subsea7, SLB, and Saipem secured an EPCI contract for phase 2, covering subsea production systems and SURF components. Additionally, in May 2024, Subsea7 was tasked with installing Türkiye’s first floating production unit for the same phase. In December 2024, the company also secured an IRM services contract for the field, with work planned for 2025 and 2026.

The phase 3 SURF contract underscores Subsea7’s expertise in delivering complex offshore energy projects and supports Türkiye’s efforts to enhance its energy infrastructure. By leveraging local resources and advanced technology, Subsea7 aims to contribute to the reliable development of the Sakarya gas field, fostering sustainable energy solutions for the region.
