Wedoany.com Report-Sept. 26, On September 23, Kazakhstan’s Minister of Agriculture, Aidarbek Saparov, announced at a government meeting in Astana that the country expects to harvest 4 million tons of oilseeds this year, including 2 million tons of sunflower seeds. This significant yield is projected to fully meet domestic demand for oilseed products, supporting the nation’s agricultural and food industries.
“The total harvest area in Kazakhstan in 2025 is 23.6 million hectares, of which more than 16 million hectares are grains and legumes. Approximately 700,000 tons of oilseeds have been harvested to date. Overall, a record oilseed harvest of approximately 4 million tons is expected this year,” said Minister Saparov. The forecast marks a notable increase from the 3.3 million tons of oilseeds harvested in 2024, reflecting improved agricultural productivity.
The substantial oilseed harvest is expected to strengthen Kazakhstan’s position in the agricultural sector, ensuring a robust supply of raw materials for edible oils and other products. The focus on sunflower seeds, which constitute half of the projected yield, highlights the crop’s importance to the country’s economy and food security.
Efforts to achieve this record harvest involve expanded cultivation areas and enhanced farming techniques across Kazakhstan’s agricultural regions. The 23.6 million hectares dedicated to crops this year demonstrate the sector’s scale, with oilseeds playing a critical role alongside grains and legumes. The ministry is prioritizing sustainable practices to maintain high yields while supporting long-term agricultural growth.
This forecast underscores Kazakhstan’s commitment to meeting domestic consumption needs and strengthening its agricultural output. The increased oilseed production is poised to support local industries, reduce reliance on imports, and contribute to economic stability in the region.
