Wedoany.com Report-Oct. 13, Moravia Steel, the leading steel producer in the Czech Republic, has successfully completed a 42-day overhaul of the No.4 blast furnace at its Třinecké železárny plant in Třinec. The furnace, critical to the plant’s operations, resumed production following the upgrade, ensuring continued reliability and efficiency.

The Třinecké želeárny facility operates the only two active blast furnaces in the Czech Republic, with a combined annual crude steel capacity of approximately 2.5 million tons, primarily focused on long rolled products. The No.4 blast furnace, which contributes around 1.2 million tons of hot metal annually, underwent a comprehensive refurbishment after nearly 20 years of continuous operation. This upgrade enhances its performance and extends its operational life.

Roman Heide, CEO of Třinecké želeárny, stated: “The overhaul was completed smoothly, ensuring the furnace can continue stable operations for decades to come.” The successful maintenance reflects the company’s commitment to maintaining high operational standards at the Třinec facility.

As part of its long-term sustainability efforts, Moravia Steel plans to construct a 1-million-ton-per-year electric arc furnace (EAF) to replace one of the existing blast furnaces. Additionally, the company intends to decommission its sinter plant as part of its decarbonization strategy. Originally scheduled for 2028, this investment has been delayed to after 2030 due to regulatory uncertainties and high project costs. The transition to an EAF aims to reduce environmental impact while maintaining production capacity.

The overhaul and future plans underscore Moravia Steel’s focus on modernizing its operations at Třinecké želeárny while addressing sustainability goals. The company continues to play a key role in the Czech Republic’s steel industry, supporting both domestic and international markets with its high-quality rolled products.
