Wedoany.com Report-Nov. 28, Batu Ampar Container Terminal (BACT), a subsidiary of International Container Terminal Services, Inc. (ICTSI), together with Interport Mandiri Utama and Batam Terminal Petikemas (BTP), will assume unified operation of the North Pier at Batu Ampar Port starting 1 December.

The integration, formally announced on 19 October at an event organised by Badan Pengusahaan Batam (BP Batam), consolidates management under a single operator structure to raise service quality, boost operational efficiency, and strengthen Batu Ampar’s position as a regional logistics centre.

Benny Syahroni, BP Batam Port Management Director, said: “Starting 1 December, BACT and BTP will officially operate as the single port operator of Batu Ampar Port’s North Pier, supporting Batu Ampar’s transformation into a modern and competitive international port.”

The North Pier offers 900,000 TEU of annual handling capacity along a 1,032-metre quay. It is equipped with five quay cranes, 12 rubber-tyred gantries, and currently 10 electric terminal trucks, with plans to increase the fleet to 25 units as volume grows.

Hsin Kai Huang, CEO of BACT, stated at the ceremony: “We are committed to transforming Batu Ampar into a modern and competitive international port. Along with investments in infrastructure and equipment, we are focused on developing a highly skilled local workforce aligned with ICTSI Group’s professional standards to enhance performance and build on the strong foundation already in place.”

The unified operation is expected to reduce vessel turnaround times, simplify procedures, and provide more consistent service reliability. These improvements support Batam’s development as a key logistics gateway, helping attract investment and drive industrial and economic growth in the region.

The initiative represents a further step in modernising Batam’s port facilities to meet rising trade demand and enhance overall competitiveness.
