Wedoany.com Report-Dec.8, Sandvik has broken ground on a new C$85 million (approximately $61 million) production and service facility in Greater Sudbury, Ontario, the company officials announced on Friday. The project has received conditional support of up to C$4 million from the province through the Invest Ontario Fund.

Located on a 115-acre site, the 135,000-square-foot complex will eventually accommodate up to 400 employees and create 61 new permanent positions. It will replace Sandvik's existing location in Lively, which has served the region for over four decades.

The modern centre is designed to meet rising demand for mining equipment maintenance, battery-electric vehicle (BEV) servicing, faster repair turnaround times and long-term capacity expansion. The layout will provide double the current workshop space and include dedicated BEV infrastructure, advanced welding and painting areas, expanded offices and a technology-equipped training simulator for operators and technicians.

Sustainability features such as energy-efficient systems, waste-reduction measures and circular-design principles have been incorporated throughout the building.

"This new facility marks an important step forward in how we support our people and customers across Canada. We are building a modern, collaborative and future-ready work environment that reflects the rapid changes taking place in today’s mining industry," said Peter Corcoran, Vice President of Sales at Sandvik.

"With expanded capabilities, enhanced infrastructure, and a strong focus on our core products, which align with Canada's priorities around electrification and sustainability, this investment strengthens our ability to remain a trusted partner for our customers for many years to come."

Vic Fedeli, Ontario’s Minister of Economic Development, Job Creation and Trade, stated: "As one of the most diversified manufacturing sectors in North America, Ontario continues to drive advancements that strengthen productivity and competitiveness across our critical industries."

Construction is scheduled to start in December 2025, with the facility expected to open during the third quarter of 2027. The investment is intended to reinforce Sandvik's operational presence in Canada while contributing to regional economic development and the advancement of sustainable mining technologies.
