Wedoany.com Report-Dec.12, Statistics Canada has released final 2025 crop production estimates showing record canola output of 21.8 million tonnes, an increase of 2.6 million tonnes over 2024. Despite the higher volume, harvested area fell marginally to 8.7 million hectares from 8.85 million hectares the previous year, reflecting improved average yields.
Wheat production reached a new high of 40 million tonnes, up from 35.9 million tonnes in 2024. Sown area remained essentially unchanged at 10.62 million hectares.
Soybean output totalled 6.8 million tonnes from 2.32 million hectares, below the earlier forecast of 7.6 million tonnes.
Barley production rose to 9.73 million tonnes and oats to 3.92 million tonnes, increases of 1.6 million tonnes and 0.6 million tonnes respectively. Corn harvest declined by 0.5 million tonnes to 14.87 million tonnes.
In the oilseed export market, Canadian canola shipments have slowed markedly since the beginning of the 2025/26 marketing year (August–October). Total exports reached only 1.4 million tonnes, compared with 3 million tonnes during the same period last year. Higher volumes to Japan, Mexico and the European Union partially offset significantly lower shipments to China.
The combination of record domestic supply and softer export pace is expected to result in substantially larger year-end canola stocks. Analysts note that strong production across most major field crops will support ample availability for both domestic processing and international customers through the current marketing year.
