Wedoany.com Report-Dec 23, The technology, aimed at high-speed freight transport with zero environmental impact, will be tested on the Bologna San Donato line without disrupting existing rail operations.
The railway network is becoming more intelligent and increasing freight transport capacity. It is with this objective in mind that a Memorandum of Understanding has been signed between the Rete Ferroviaria Italiana (RFI) and Ricerca sul Sistema Energetico (RSE), to test a new transport system.
The Pipe§net technology - which uses magnetic levitation and electric motor propulsion - will initially be used for freight transport and will be tested on the Bologna San Donato line, owned by RFI, where it will be possible to carry out experiments without disrupting railway operations.
The aim is to reduce the transport speed significantly. At the same time, it will guarantee zero environmental impact. This would make it easier to transport medicines or goods that need to be used immediately, not to mention the benefits it brings to those involved in the sector.
The aim of the scientific and technological interest is the evaluation of the integration of a sustainable logistics system for the transport of goods at high speed, through the reduction of aerodynamic friction and energy consumption, with a faster, more cost-effective and less polluting transport solution, the benefits of which would have a significant and immediate impact on the entire supply chain.
