Wedoany.com Report-Apr. 8, The Neart na Gaoithe (NnG) offshore wind farm in Scotland reached a key milestone with the installation of its 54th and final turbine. This step was completed in the early hours of today at the site, located 15.5km off the Fife coast, spanning 105 square kilometers. Valued at £1.8 billion, the project is a joint venture between EDF Renewables UK and Ireland and ESB, an Irish energy company.
Once fully operational, the 450MW wind farm will generate enough renewable electricity to power approximately 375,000 homes. It is also expected to reduce carbon dioxide emissions by 400,000 tonnes annually, contributing to cleaner energy production. The name Neart na Gaoithe, meaning “strength of the wind” in Gaelic, reflects its purpose of harnessing wind energy efficiently.
EDF Renewables UK and Ireland took ownership of NnG in 2018 and later sold a 50% share to ESB in 2019, forming the current partnership. The installation of the final turbine marks significant progress toward completing this major renewable energy initiative off Scotland’s coast.
The wind farm’s 54 turbines, now all in place, will soon enable it to deliver substantial low-carbon energy to the region. This development supports efforts to increase sustainable electricity supply and lower environmental impact, aligning with broader goals for cleaner energy solutions. The collaboration between EDF Renewables and ESB highlights a shared commitment to advancing offshore wind technology and infrastructure in the UK and Ireland.
