Wedoany.com Report-Apr. 15, MSC Cruises, a division of Switzerland-based MSC Group, celebrated the naming of its LNG-powered cruise ship, MSC World America, at the newly opened MSC Miami Cruise Terminal in the United States. The ceremony marked a significant milestone for the company’s latest vessel.

Actress and host Drew Barrymore, the ship’s godmother, performed the naming ritual on April 12, 2025, cutting a ribbon to initiate the traditional breaking of a champagne bottle against the ship’s bow. She was accompanied by actor Orlando Bloom, her co-star in MSC’s “Let’s Holiday” campaign. Barrymore expressed her excitement: “It’s an honor to name MSC World America and be part of this special moment.”

The 333.3-meter-long MSC World America, the second in MSC Cruises’ World Class series, embarked on its maiden public voyage from PortMiami on April 12, 2025. Throughout its inaugural season, the ship will offer 7-night cruises, alternating between Eastern and Western Caribbean routes. Passengers will visit destinations such as Puerto Plata in the Dominican Republic, San Juan in Puerto Rico, Costa Maya and Cozumel in Mexico, and Isla de Roatan in Honduras.

Designed with innovation in mind, MSC World America introduces seven distinct onboard districts, each offering unique atmospheres, amenities, and experiences tailored to diverse passenger preferences. The vessel incorporates advanced environmental features, including shore power connectivity, which allows engines to be turned off while docked, reducing emissions. Additionally, it is equipped with a wastewater treatment system and an onboard recycling facility to minimize waste.

MSC World America successfully completed sea trials earlier in 2025 and was officially delivered to MSC Cruises on March 27, 2025. The ship joins other LNG-powered vessels in the fleet, following the MSC World Europa, named in November 2022, and the MSC Euribia, delivered in May 2023. Looking ahead, MSC Cruises has two more ships on order: MSC World Asia, expected in 2026 or 2027, and MSC World Atlantic, scheduled for delivery in 2027.

The introduction of MSC World America underscores MSC Cruises’ commitment to expanding its presence in the U.S. market while prioritizing sustainable practices and enhanced guest experiences.
