Wedoany.com Report-Jun 20, Rove, a company focused on enhancing the electric vehicle (EV) charging experience, broke ground on its second charging center in Costa Mesa, California. The new facility, located at 2666 Harbor Blvd, is expected to open in October or November 2025. This follows the success of Rove’s first charging center in Santa Ana, which opened in October 2024 and features 40 DC charging stalls, including 28 Tesla Superchargers, 12 CCS chargers, and two CHAdeMO-compatible units.
The Costa Mesa site, situated about a mile south of the 405 freeway, will offer a similar setup to Santa Ana, with a variety of chargers, solar panels, and battery storage for sustainable operations. It will include a 24/7 lounge with security, clean restrooms, Wi-Fi, and indoor and outdoor seating. A “ReCharge by Gelson’s” store, partnered with the Southern California grocery chain, will provide hot food, fresh sushi, frozen treats, and convenience items, allowing drivers to shop while charging. The site, shared with a Goodwill store, will not feature the car wash or dog area found in Santa Ana.
Rove’s charging centers aim to combine functionality with comfort, offering amenities like tire air stations, car vacuums, windshield cleaning, shaded canopies, and trash cans—features often absent at standard charging stations. Bill Reid, Rove’s CEO, along with Gelson’s representatives and Costa Mesa city officials, attended the groundbreaking ceremony, which showcased the site’s early construction progress.
The Santa Ana location has hosted community events, attracting a diverse range of EVs and fostering local engagement. Rove plans to expand further in Southern California, with sites identified in Corona, Torrance, and Long Beach. Each location will vary slightly, such as larger parking spaces in Corona for bigger vehicles. Rove’s approach addresses common EV charging challenges by providing clean, reliable chargers and convenient amenities, creating a pleasant stop for drivers.
Bill Reid emphasized the company’s vision, stating: “This concept would work in a wide variety of areas.” By integrating services like grocery shopping and comfortable lounges, Rove aims to make EV charging a seamless and enjoyable experience, setting a new standard for charging infrastructure.
