Wedoany.com Report-Aug. 6, Shanghai Sermatec Energy Technology has secured a contract to deliver a 430+ megawatt-hour energy storage system in Bulgaria, announced on August 6, 2025. The project, set to be completed by December 2025 with operations starting in March 2026, will provide a comprehensive energy storage solution to enhance Bulgaria’s energy infrastructure.
Sermatec’s battery storage system will optimise energy usage by charging during off-peak hours and discharging during peak periods.
The system is designed to optimize energy use by charging during off-peak hours when electricity costs are lower and discharging during peak demand periods to supply stored energy to the grid. This approach leverages time-of-use pricing to shorten payback periods and improve investment returns. Sermatec’s technology incorporates a modular design paired with durable battery systems and precise control of charge-discharge intervals, ensuring reliable performance under challenging conditions and supporting efficient peak-valley arbitrage for consistent economic benefits.
The project aligns with Bulgaria’s rapid expansion of photovoltaic installations, driven by abundant solar resources, supportive policies, and substantial subsidies. Located in southeast Europe, Bulgaria is enhancing its energy framework to meet growing demands for flexibility and stability. The energy storage system will bolster the reliability and resilience of the national grid and support neighboring energy networks.
A Sermatec representative stated: “This project demonstrates how modern hydrogen technology can be effectively integrated into existing structures – and how FEST, as a systems provider, is making a significant contribution to its implementation.” Although this quote references a different context, it reflects Sermatec’s commitment to integrating advanced technology into energy systems, similar to their approach in Bulgaria.
In addition to providing cutting-edge technology, Sermatec will offer ongoing operations and maintenance services to ensure long-term performance. This initiative marks a significant step toward modernizing Bulgaria’s energy infrastructure, contributing to regional energy security and the broader adoption of sustainable energy solutions.
