Wedoany.com Report-Aug. 21, On August 18, 2025, SinoHytec, a Chinese company specializing in hydrogen fuel cell systems, signed a strategic cooperation agreement with Pengfei Group, an energy and chemical firm, to advance the development and application of hydrogen fuel cell technologies in Lüliang, Shanxi Province. The partnership aims to enhance resource sharing and accelerate the growth of the hydrogen industry, supporting Lüliang’s goal to become a national hub for hydrogen-powered heavy truck manufacturing.
Lüliang, particularly Xiaoyi City, is well-positioned for hydrogen energy development due to its annual coking capacity of 18.67 million tonnes, which generates 4.4 billion cubic meters of coke oven gas, enabling cost-effective production of 200,000 tonnes of hydrogen annually. Pengfei Group has established a comprehensive hydrogen supply chain, covering production, storage, transportation, refueling, and application, supported by its fleet of 70,000 heavy-duty trucks, which provides a robust platform for hydrogen vehicle deployment.
The collaboration focuses on scaling hydrogen vehicle applications, starting with the procurement of 100 hydrogen fuel cell heavy-duty trucks for raw material transport in the coking industry and 250 hydrogen-powered logistics vehicles for urban cold chain networks. SinoHytec will supply advanced fuel cell systems, while Pengfei Group will develop a network of hydrogen refueling stations and a digital operations platform to validate the economic and operational feasibility of these vehicles.
SinoHytec Chairman Zhang Guoqiang stated: “SinoHytec is committed to working with Pengfei Group and Lüliang local government to promote the development of Shanxi’s hydrogen industry and build a demonstration zone for China’s energy revolution.” The partnership aims to integrate coking hydrogen resources, heavy truck manufacturing, and logistics financing to create a scalable “Lüliang model” for nationwide adoption.
By leveraging their complementary strengths, SinoHytec and Pengfei Group aim to enhance the reliability and efficiency of hydrogen-powered transport. The initiative supports Shanxi’s ambition to lead in clean energy innovation, contributing to sustainable industrial growth and reduced carbon emissions.
This collaboration strengthens Lüliang’s position as a key player in China’s hydrogen industry, fostering innovation and economic development through advanced fuel cell technology and infrastructure. The partnership’s focus on practical applications and scalable solutions positions it to drive long-term advancements in the hydrogen energy sector.
