The system has produced several hundred kilowatt-hours, which powered electric heaters at the company’s quayside hub, marking a significant advancement in marine energy development.

The company stated: “We are generating more than anticipated with our numeric models – a breakthrough in marine energy. After months of anticipation, our technology has now been deployed for testing in the Black Sea, Turkey – and the results are exceeding expectations. The test has already generated hundreds of kWh – enough to power our electric heaters in the quayside hub. Real-life energy, delivered directly from the sea.”

The wave energy technology performed as intended, though ZOEX Power identified key project management lessons to benefit the broader marine energy sector. These include the importance of robust management systems, effective communication, early modifications prior to installation, and the value of engaging a local project engineer. The company also emphasized the role of collaboration, recognizing team contributions and clearly sharing the project vision with stakeholders to ensure successful outcomes.

In May, ZOEX Power secured £531,000 (approximately $715,000) in funding to advance its wave energy converter technology. The investment came from angel syndicate Equity Gap, the University of Strathclyde, and Scottish Enterprise, supporting the company’s efforts to refine and deploy sustainable energy solutions. In July 2024, ZOEX completed the installation of a 100 kW wave energy device at the Port of Aberdeen, South Harbour, further demonstrating its commitment to renewable energy innovation.

The Black Sea testing builds on these achievements, showcasing the potential of wave energy to contribute to clean power generation. By exceeding predicted energy outputs, ZOEX Power is advancing the reliability and scalability of its technology.
