Wedoany.com Report-Aug. 27, Trinseo plc, headquartered in Berwyn, Pennsylvania, has officially signed an agreement to launch its polycarbonate (PC) recycling project in the Zhangjiagang Free Trade Zone. The project represents a total investment of about $20 million, with Phase I designed for an annual production capacity of 5,000 tons. The signing ceremony was attended by Han Wei, Secretary of the Zhangjiagang Municipal Party Committee; Frank Bozich, CEO of Trinseo; Han Hendriks, Global Senior Vice President of Trinseo; and Arthas Yang, Global Senior Vice President and President of Trinseo Asia Pacific. Trinseo also operates an ABS production facility in Zhangjiagang.
In his address, Han Wei noted that the newly signed project incorporates advanced technology and offers significant market potential, aligning closely with the city’s industrial development strategy. He said: “The municipal government will continue to foster a first-class business environment that is market-oriented, law-based, and international, and will work side by side with Trinseo to create a bright future of high-quality development.” He also encouraged Trinseo to take the project as a new starting point to accelerate construction and production, while introducing more advanced technologies, high-end projects, and quality resources to Zhangjiagang.
Frank Bozich expressed appreciation for the support provided by the Zhangjiagang Municipal Party Committee, the municipal government, and the Free Trade Zone Administration. He said: “Thanks to this continued support, Trinseo has achieved rapid and stable growth in Zhangjiagang. With the successful launch of the new project, we will further expand our footprint and contribute to the development of the local circular economy through technological innovation.”
Trinseo is a global materials science company and was one of the earliest foreign enterprises to establish a presence in the Yangtze River International Chemical Park. Since entering the Zhangjiagang Free Trade Zone in 1998, Trinseo has invested nearly USD 400 million, developing its largest production base in the Asia-Pacific region. The company provides innovative and sustainable material solutions for industries including automotive, electronics, healthcare, and construction.
Zhangjiagang has leveraged platforms such as the Yangtze River International Chemical Park to advance functional new materials and high-end fine chemicals. This focus has attracted a number of leading domestic and international enterprises in the chemical materials sector. Currently, the city hosts 169 large-scale enterprises and 26 Fortune Global 500 companies. The chemical new materials industry now generates nearly RMB 80 billion in output. The signing of Trinseo’s project is expected to add momentum to Zhangjiagang’s goal of building a RMB 100 billion-level chemical new materials industrial cluster.
City leaders Lu Chongmin and Zhao Yu were also present at the event.
