Wedoany.com Report-Sept. 4, Synera Renewable Energy (SRE) has appointed Seaway7, a subsidiary of the Subsea7 Group, to manage the transport and installation of 35 inter-array cables for the Formosa 4 offshore wind farm in Taiwan. Offshore construction is scheduled to commence in 2028.

Formosa 4’s offshore works are set to begin in 2028.

Formosa 4 will have a capacity of 495MW and is located about 20km from Miaoli County’s coast. The development will include 35 wind turbine generators, as well as a 500MW offshore substation connected to a 500MW onshore substation, which will link to Taiwan Power Company’s Fangli substation. This represents the third offshore wind initiative launched by SRE, furthering its role in the country’s renewable energy sector.

The collaboration with Seaway7 extends beyond Formosa 4. The company has also been selected as the preferred contractor for SRE’s Formosa 6 project, which involves transporting and installing 57 inter-array cables. The contract for this project is expected to be finalised in 2026.

Seaway7 CEO Stuart Fitzgerald expressed confidence in the partnership: “We are looking forward to supporting SRE on the Formosa 4 project and being able to continue contributing to the Taiwanese offshore wind targets with our seventh contract award since entering the Taiwanese market in 2019.”

Seaway7’s presence in Taiwan has been steadily growing since its entry into the market six years ago. In February 2023, the company secured a contract for the Hai Long offshore wind project, also in Taiwan. That agreement covered the installation of inner-array grid and export cables, including transport, cable protection systems, and four export cables.

To execute the Formosa 4 project, Seaway7 plans to utilise the Maersk Connector, a cable-lay vessel under long-term charter to the company. This vessel has already been deployed on several large-scale cable installation projects, adding to its proven track record.

The Formosa 4 project underscores Taiwan’s ongoing efforts to expand offshore wind capacity. With 495MW planned, it will add significantly to the island’s renewable energy generation. Combined with Formosa 6 and other projects underway, Taiwan is continuing to strengthen its offshore wind portfolio as part of its broader energy transition goals.

SRE’s choice of Seaway7 demonstrates confidence in the company’s ability to deliver complex subsea infrastructure. With multiple contracts already in place, Seaway7’s growing involvement signals its important role in helping to achieve Taiwan’s offshore wind targets.

Overall, the cooperation between SRE and Seaway7 reflects the increasing momentum in Taiwan’s offshore wind industry. As projects like Formosa 4 move forward, they highlight the integration of international expertise with local energy development, ensuring both technical advancement and long-term capacity growth.
