Wedoany.com Report-Nov. 7, Hydrogen Solutions (HYDS) has reached final investment decisions (FIDs) for its two green hydrogen production projects, HyFuel and Kaupanes Hydrogen, moving both into the construction phase. The announcement, made on November 5, underscores a “significant progress in scaling competitive green hydrogen supply and enabling zero emission solutions in segments where direct electrification is not sufficient.”
The HyFuel project is a joint venture between HYDS, Sogn og Fjordane Energi, and Fjord Base Holding. The plant will be located at the supply base in Florø. Kaupanes Hydrogen is owned by HYDS, Dalane Energi AS, and Eigersund Næring og Havn KF, with its facility planned for the Kaupanes industrial area in Egersund.
Both projects are set to deliver 20 MW of green hydrogen production capacity each, targeting sectors including maritime transport, land transportation, construction, and industrial users across Norway and the wider Nordic region. Electrolyzers for the plants will be supplied by NEL Hydrogen, while engineering, installation, and execution work will be handled in collaboration with Moreld Apply.
Over the past year, HYDS and its co-owners have completed commercial structuring, permitting, engineering planning, and main equipment contracting. With FIDs confirmed, the projects are now entering the execution phase, marking a major step toward expanding green hydrogen availability and supporting decarbonization in key industrial and transport sectors.
The projects aim to demonstrate scalable, low-carbon hydrogen solutions that complement existing electrification strategies, particularly in industries where direct electric alternatives are limited. By producing hydrogen locally, the developments are expected to contribute to regional energy security and sustainability objectives.
HYDS emphasized that these initiatives reflect a commitment to building competitive green hydrogen infrastructure in Norway, reinforcing the company’s strategic focus on low-emission energy technologies and enabling broader adoption of hydrogen as a clean fuel.
With construction underway, both HyFuel and Kaupanes Hydrogen will establish operational capacity to serve domestic and regional hydrogen demand, positioning Norway as a growing hub for renewable hydrogen production in Europe.
The collaboration among HYDS, local energy partners, and technology providers highlights a coordinated approach to project execution, integrating planning, permitting, equipment procurement, and construction to deliver high-quality, reliable hydrogen supply.
The projects are also expected to stimulate local economic activity, create skilled jobs in the energy sector, and strengthen the region’s industrial ecosystem while advancing Norway’s commitments to carbon neutrality and sustainable energy transition.
In summary, HYDS’ FIDs for HyFuel and Kaupanes Hydrogen mark a milestone in Norway’s green hydrogen development, providing scalable production capacity, supporting zero-emission technologies, and reinforcing strategic collaboration among energy companies, technology suppliers, and regional stakeholders.
