Wedoany.com Report-Dec.2, Brazil is projected to achieve a record soybean harvest of 178 million metric tons in the 2025/26 marketing year, according to Itau BBA analyst Francisco Queiroz speaking at an online event on Monday. This exceeds the U.S. Department of Agriculture's current estimate of 175 million tons and surpasses the previous season’s output of 171.5 million tons.

Planted area is expected to expand by approximately 1 million hectares compared with 2024/25, despite narrower profit margins for growers. Initial planting was affected by irregular rainfall linked to the peak of the La Niña pattern in November and December, causing delays in certain regions.

Queiroz emphasised that improved weather conditions forecast for the coming weeks across Brazil's main central growing areas should support robust development and high yields, securing the anticipated record production.

Delayed soybean planting may reduce the window available for the subsequent second-corn (safrinha) crop in key central-western states. However, Itau BBA's Agro Consulting team still forecasts total Brazilian corn output at 138–139 million tons for 2025/26, well above the USDA's projection of 131 million tons and higher than the 136 million tons recorded in 2024/25.

The outlook confirms Brazil's continuing expansion as the world's leading soybean producer and a major corn supplier, supported by ongoing area growth and favourable medium-term weather prospects in core agricultural regions.
