Wedoany.com Report-Dec.3, RTX announced on Tuesday that its Pratt & Whitney division has been awarded a $1.6 billion contract for long-term sustainment of the F135 propulsion system, which powers all three variants of the Lockheed Martin F-35 Lightning II aircraft.
The multi-year agreement covers depot-level maintenance, component repair, technical engineering assistance, and replenishment of spare parts. Services will support both United States military operators and more than 20 international partner nations currently flying the F-35.
Pratt & Whitney has delivered over 1,300 F135 engines since the program began, equipping aircraft across air forces worldwide.
The new sustainment award follows a separate $2.8 billion production contract received in August for additional F135 engines.
These contracts contribute to the ongoing reliability and readiness of the global F-35 fleet, which continues to expand as more countries take delivery of the fifth-generation fighter.
The F135 remains the sole propulsion system certified for the F-35 family, providing common logistics support across conventional takeoff, short takeoff/vertical landing, and carrier-based versions.
RTX stated that the latest agreement ensures continued performance and availability of the engine throughout its operational lifecycle, while maintaining cost-effective support for all participating armed forces.
Work under the sustainment contract will be performed at Pratt & Whitney facilities and partner depots in the United States and abroad, with completion scheduled over several years.
The award reinforces Pratt & Whitney's central role in one of the largest international defense programs, supporting thousands of skilled jobs and advanced manufacturing capabilities across multiple locations.
