Wedoany.com Report-Dec.3, JA Solar has released a TÜV Nord-certified white paper detailing the performance of its DesertBlue module series specifically designed for desert, Gobi, and wasteland environments. These regions account for nearly 27 percent of China's land area and about one-quarter of global land surface, offering abundant solar resources alongside challenges such as dust accumulation, strong winds, intense ultraviolet radiation, and significant temperature fluctuations.

The DesertBlue series, launched in August 2025, incorporates a nano-scale self-cleaning coating that reduces dust adhesion. Independent testing shows this coating lowers light transmittance degradation by more than 32 percent compared with conventional module glass, extending operational life by up to five years.

Available in ratings up to 650 W with conversion efficiency reaching 24 percent, the modules demonstrate enhanced mechanical strength, withstanding 6,000 Pa front-side and 4,000 Pa back-side loading—over 60 percent higher than standard modules. Operating temperature range has been expanded to –5 °C to +80 °C, and cumulative irradiance tolerance increased to 220 kWh/m², far exceeding IEC 61215-2 requirements.

Field trials confirm substantial gains. A 10-day test under simulated heavy dust conditions at JA Solar's Fengxian base in Shanghai recorded a 7.09 percent higher power output compared with conventional modules. In a nearly four-month empirical study using 2P tracking in Inner Mongolia's Ulan Buh Desert, DesertBlue modules delivered a 4.98 percent generation increase.

JA Solar has also established long-term demonstration platforms in the Tengger Desert (Inner Mongolia) and Xinjiang, where real-world performance continues to be monitored in collaboration with TÜV Nord.

Additional benefits include reduced project costs. The enhanced load capacity lowers grounding expenses by approximately CNY 0.003 ($0.00042) per watt, while decreased cleaning requirements save CNY 0.04/W in China and CNY 0.025/W in Middle East markets for robotic cleaning systems.

The white paper concludes: "Their exceptional temperature coefficient and bifacial energy generation capability ensure stable and efficient power output under harsh conditions, including extreme heat, desert environments, and high-albedo surfaces. The product has successfully passed more stringent testing per IEC standards, guaranteeing over 25 years of reliable performance for solar power plants."

By addressing the specific challenges of arid and high-irradiance regions, the DesertBlue series offers improved energy yield, longer service life, and lower levelized cost of electricity, making large-scale solar projects in desert and wasteland areas more viable and efficient worldwide.
