The initiative is projected to generate over 2,000 positions as the carrier expands operations in the rapidly developing central Texas region.

The majority of roles at the Austin facility will comprise captains, first officers, and flight attendants, complemented by management and support personnel, according to the company.

Additionally, Southwest intends to incorporate a dedicated recurring training center for flight attendants within the scope of its ongoing operational enhancements.

The base is anticipated to commence activities in early March 2026 with approximately 335 pilots and 650 flight attendants on staff. Employment numbers are expected to reach around 2,000 by the middle of 2027.

The airline indicated that the selection of Austin resulted from extensive preparation and discussions involving city authorities and state economic development representatives. These efforts focus on supporting sustained expansion and improving network performance across Texas.

Southwest further noted plans to enhance collaborations with regional workforce development initiatives and the airport's employment resources to facilitate recruitment and professional preparation for the incoming team members.
