Wedoany.com Report-Aug. 30, Hyundai Heavy Industries has received international certification for its self-developed 500MW offshore substation, a step intended to enhance its role in the global offshore wind industry. The certification was issued by DNV, which granted an International Design Verification Certificate confirming that the model complies with international standards and technical requirements.
The 500MW offshore substation was designed entirely in-house and incorporates key equipment and materials sourced domestically. Hyundai highlighted that this approach secures a reliable supply chain and strengthens cooperation with local suppliers. By applying a standardised design, the substation is tailored for large-scale offshore wind projects and is expected to support the growth of South Korea’s domestic supply chain in alignment with national renewable energy policy goals.
The company emphasized that the substation design will contribute to both international competitiveness and the development of local industry. Its application in offshore wind developments is expected to expand opportunities for suppliers while ensuring stable project execution.
Won Kwang-sik, head of Hyundai’s marine energy division, said: “With this certification, we plan to launch full-scale order-winning activities in the offshore wind power market. We will develop offshore substation models with various capacities and shapes to expand our product portfolio and strengthen our competitiveness.”
The certification underscores Hyundai Heavy Industries’ strategy of advancing its offshore wind solutions through standardisation, localised sourcing, and global compliance. It also reflects the company’s plan to diversify its offerings by creating substation models adaptable to different project requirements.
By securing this recognition, Hyundai aims to position itself more strongly in the international offshore wind sector while supporting the broader expansion of renewable energy infrastructure in South Korea. The achievement highlights the company’s integration of technical expertise, local cooperation, and global standards as it moves toward capturing new opportunities in the renewable energy market.
