Wedoany.com Report-Oct. 17, DP World has introduced a new shipping service linking Jebel Ali Port in the UAE with Berbera Port in Somaliland, operating on a nine-day schedule. This addition strengthens DP World’s worldwide network and elevates Berbera’s position as a key maritime and logistics center in East Africa.

The route includes scheduled stops at Aden and Djibouti, expanding connectivity options for cargo movement. From Berbera, shipments can proceed inland to locations such as Ethiopia, serving as an alternative to land transport through Djibouti Port. The service is designed to enhance reliability in transit times and minimize delays caused by regional constraints.

Berbera Port is equipped with a 1,050-meter quay, featuring a 400-meter berth suitable for Triple E vessels, along with facilities for bulk and breakbulk cargo handling. It also has the capacity to manage approximately 4 million heads of livestock each year. The port includes a modern container terminal and the Berbera Special Economic Zone (BSEZ), aimed at drawing investments and fostering industrial development.

“The Jebel Ali to Berbera service further complementscomplements DP World’s investment drive into Africa. Building on the significant infrastructure we have developed across the continent, the service enhances connectivity for our customers as we continue to boost trade links between the Middle East and East Africa. In doing so, we are supporting the growth of resilient, sustainable corridors that unlock prosperity for our partners, customers and the communities we serve,” said Ganesh Raj, Group COO, Marine Services at DP World.

“The launch of this new corridor is a milestone in our ambition to build faster, safer, and more reliable trade routes. It reflects our commitment to creating meaningful economic benefits for businesses and communities in the region. Our work in Berbera is already stimulating trade and industry, while supporting wider community development. Looking ahead, this service will strengthen Berbera’s role as a gateway for East Africa’s future growth and prosperity,” said Supachai Wattanaveerachai, CEO, DP World Horn of Africa.

This initiative aligns with DP World’s broader efforts to improve trade efficiency and infrastructure in the region, facilitating smoother cargo flows and economic opportunities. By integrating Berbera into its global operations, DP World supports enhanced supply chain resilience and regional integration.

In a related development, DP World has collaborated with Tashkent Invest, a subsidiary of the Tashkent City Administration, to establish and manage a new multimodal logistics terminal near Tashkent, Uzbekistan. This partnership underscores DP World’s ongoing expansion in logistics and trade facilitation across diverse markets.

The new route and associated facilities at Berbera contribute to the port’s evolution as a vital hub, offering diversified services that cater to various cargo types and promote sustainable trade practices. DP World’s investments in port infrastructure and economic zones continue to drive connectivity, enabling businesses to access new markets and supporting long-term regional development.
