Wedoany.com Report-Oct. 18, Pilbara Ports reported a total monthly throughput of 68.5 million tonnes (Mt) for September 2025, marking a 3% increase compared with September 2024.
At the Port of Port Hedland, monthly throughput reached 49.4Mt, including 48.6Mt of iron ore exports, reflecting a 1% decrease from the same month last year. Imports at Port Hedland totaled 214,000 tonnes, down 5% year-on-year.
The Port of Dampier recorded a throughput of 15.1Mt, matching September 2024 levels. Imports through Dampier amounted to 107,000 tonnes, a 26% decline compared with the previous year.
The Port of Ashburton delivered 4.1Mt, a 179% increase over September 2024, highlighting significant growth in throughput at this facility.
Pilbara Ports noted that fluctuations in throughput are influenced by factors such as market conditions, port maintenance schedules, and the operational needs of port users.
Earlier this summer, Pilbara Ports released its first Climate Action Plan (2025–2030), providing a framework for sustainable port operations and supporting decarbonisation initiatives across the Pilbara region.
Overall, the September 2025 results demonstrate steady growth across Pilbara Ports’ operations, with notable expansion at the Port of Ashburton, stable activity at Dampier, and slight declines at Port Hedland, reflecting both operational and market-driven factors.
These throughput figures underline the ports’ continuing role in supporting regional exports, particularly iron ore, while managing imports efficiently and advancing sustainability objectives for the coming decade.
